Blotter: Mystery Person Steals Woman’s Dog, Controls her Mind

The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

May 22

12:08 a.m. A Calle Redonda caller said two men are walking down the street, tagging the walls.

12:25 a.m. A Calle del Rio caller reported a man has a boombox outside.

12:44 a.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller said two barrels are blocking the northbound lane.

12:45 a.m. A Calle del Rio caller said officers went out and told people to turn down their music but they started back up again.

6:32 a.m. A caller reported an SUV hit an animal, then hit a guardrail in Ojo Caliente.

6:51 a.m. A Juan Medina Road caller said someone stole her dog and is controlling her mind.

8:06 a.m. A La Tierra Montessori School caller reported the windows were broken.

8:07 a.m. A La Joya Street caller said her son is in her front yard and is going to break her window.

8:15 a.m. A Chamita caller reported someone broke in through the doggy door.

8:24 a.m. A Questa Lane caller said his garage was broken into.

8:41 a.m. A Mountain Dental caller reported copper wiring was stolen from the air conditioning unit.

9:22 a.m. A La Joya Street caller reported an 80-year-old man is unconscious, cold to the touch and they can't wake him.

10:12 a.m. A Coyote caller wants to speak with a deputy about drug activity in the area.

10:40 a.m. A Pizza 9 caller said a man is irate, yelling and walking in front of the business and throwing rocks at vehicles.

10:48 a.m. A woman went to the Española Police Department to file a report for assault, but didn't want to press charges.

10:54 a.m. A Calle del Alamos caller reported her 41-year-old son is not conscious or breathing and she thinks he's overdosing on heroin. One dose of Narcan was administered and he began breathing.

11:13 a.m. A Rue 21 caller wants several people along the wall dispersed.

12:12 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man in front of the Santa Claran gas station, who is "tweaking really bad" and keeps walking into the road.

12:43 p.m. A report for a stolen poly cart was filed at the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office.

12:51 p.m. A caller reported seeing someone shooting at a car on Zuni Lane and North McCurdy Road.

1:28 p.m. A caller said he was rear-ended by another vehicle near the San Pedro Shell station.

2:38 p.m. A walk-in report was taken at the Española Police Department for criminal damage to a house on Corlett Road.

3:13 p.m. A Dairy Queen employee said someone took the mirror off her car.

3:49 p.m. A Southwest Cannabis caller requested a welfare check on a woman leaning against the wall who "doesn't look too good."

3:53 p.m. A Family Dollar in Española caller reported a man was trying to add $150 to a cash app and was told it wouldn't work with a debit card. When the cashier showed him the register screen, he pushed the cash button and ran off. Now the register will be short.

3:58 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who's on drugs and dragging her 6-year-old son who is crying, in front of Washington Federal.

4:08 p.m. An officer stopped at the Family Dollar in Española because there were people in tents near the business.

4:27 p.m. A Po Pay Avenue caller said a 22-year-old man is drunk and appears to have been beaten up.

4:27 p.m. A Lower San Pedro Road caller reported he saw someone on camera, trying to get into his car and wants to speak with an officer about it.

5:02 p.m. A North Monterey Lane caller said a 21-year-old woman is overdosing and running around outside. One dose of Narcan was administered and it was discovered that the woman took powdered fentanyl.

5:27 p.m. A Rue 21 caller wants to speak with an officer about dispersing people in the parking lot.

5:37 p.m. An Easy Street in Jicarilla caller said a man wants to slit his throat.

5:38 p.m. A County Road 326 in Tierra Amarilla caller wants to file a report for a damaged fence.

6:01 p.m A walk-in report for harassment was taken at the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office.

6:26 p.m. A caller said they were rear-ended in a road rage incident at the intersection near Fairview Sonic.

6:28 p.m. A Park and Ride driver reported a drunk man won't get off the bus.

6:50 p.m. A County Road 326 in Tierra Amarilla caller said a drunk man is requesting an ambulance.

7:44 p.m. A Coyote caller reported their sister is threatening their father and becoming aggressive. The sister said if they call the police, "all of Gallina will be in trouble."

7:50 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man and woman are refusing to leave.

8:24 p.m. An Indian Way caller reported hearing a gunshot.

9:18 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller said he heard two shots fired.

9:29 p.m. A San Pedro Shell caller reported a man is harassing her and threatened to spit on her face, then pulled down his pants and mooned her.

10:46 p.m. A County Road 131 in Hernandez caller said someone hopped into his uncle's truck and stole it.

11:54 p.m. An Española Hospital caller reported a man was discharged and is refusing to leave.

May 23

12:29 a.m. A Speedway caller said a woman had a pistol.

12:41 a.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller reported a hit-and-run.

1:56 a.m. A West Don Filigonio caller said a man was walking around with a full cart and now he doesn't have the cart. The caller thinks the man is stealing from the area.

2:46 a.m. A Fairview Lane caller woke up to find a man on her porch.

2:47 a.m. A man was lying on a woman's porch on Bonecutter Lane. She's not sure if he's drunk, but he looks passed out.

3:26 a.m. A 37-year-old man at the Santa Claran Hotel Casino was feeling suicidal.

4:49 a.m. A caller can see two people on the property at Big Dawg's and she's afraid they are going to break in.

6:31 a.m. A Roosevelt Street caller said a woman stole his laptop.

7:05 a.m. A Bellas Lane caller woke up to find their vehicle missing.

10:37 a.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller wants to speak with an officer about a dog bite that happened on May 18.

10:40 a.m. A Rue 21 caller said there are eight people loitering in front of the store and they want them dispersed.

12:06 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man between El Rey Liquors and Pizza 9, who is walking into traffic and "tripping out."

2:16 p.m. The baby box alarm at Fire Station #1 was activated.

3:15 p.m. A woman in Dixon lost her keys, is stranded and doesn't know where she's at.

3:20 p.m. A La Mesilla caller backed into his neighbor's car.

3:47 p.m. An Espinoza Lane caller can smell gas in his house.

4:43 p.m. A caller said a woman was in his vehicle in the Food King parking lot and when she left, he noticed she’d stolen money from his dashboard. He followed her to the Goodwill parking lot.

5:01 p.m. A Private Drive 1034D in Velarde reported his neighbor's dog attacked and killed his dog.

5:32 p.m. A Walgreens caller said a car in the parking lot has blankets covering the windows and they think the occupants might be doing drugs.

5:37 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a child bouncing a ball in and out of traffic on North McCurdy Road.

7:21 p.m. A Speedway caller said a woman is throwing trash out of the trash can.

7:32 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a vehicle hit the cement near the gas pumps.

8:12 p.m. A North McCurdy Road caller requested courtesy rounds because cars have been drag racing throughout the night.

8:27 p.m. An East Sanchez Street caller reported a man she knows stole a duffle bag with personal paperwork, including her Social Security information and tax returns.

8:51 p.m. A Hernandez caller said her 53-year-old mother is suicidal and is threatening to jump in the road.

9:29 p.m. An Alcalde caller reported her neighbor is running in and out of her house and yelling. She wants a deputy to check on her.

11:07 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said a man in a truck suspected of stealing was very hostile with security and brandished a gun.

11:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on her sister, whom she believes is suicidal. The sister sent her a goodbye text and isn't answering the phone.

11:23 a.m. A caller reported hearing shots fired behind the Dollar General in Hernandez.

11:44 p.m. An alarm was activated at Ferrellgas.

May 24

12:05 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller reported a four-wheeler flipped near the water tank.

12:05 a.m. A caller said he heard three loud shots fired next to his house on El Llano Road.

12:57 a.m. A Milagro Village Mobile Home Park caller reported people might be trying to get into a vacant trailer.

4:32 a.m. A behind-the-register alarm was activated at Speedway.

5:11 a.m. A caller said two people are in the middle of the road near O’Reilly's and are trying to flag down vehicles.

8 a.m. An Ohkay Travel Center caller reported an older man walked into the laundromat and took pictures.

8:41 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a child who has not been in school since November.

9 a.m. A caller reported a former employee is causing problems at CR Minerals in Hernandez.

9:15 a.m. A La Mesilla caller said someone is calling and threatening to shoot his house. He said the person was involved in a court case 20 years ago.

9:17 a.m. A La Joya Street caller reported her son is at the door, asking for keys and money.

9:21 a.m. A County Road 141 in Medanales caller said dogs killed his chickens while he was at work.

9:45 a.m. A caller reported several people are at the bus stop near Las Lomas Apartments and one looks "out of it."

10:14 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller said someone has been drinking for two days and is "coming out of it," but doesn't feel good.

10:17 a.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller reported finding stolen items in her yard.

10:17 a.m. An El Rito caller said his neighbor's car was vandalized. He saw the man walking away from the car and asked what he did. The neighbor got aggressive and said to call the cops and he will talk.

10:23 a.m. An East Shadowood Lane caller reported his 40-year-old cousin is not breathing or conscious and overdosing on heroin.

10:57 a.m. A Rue 21 caller said there are 10 or more homeless people in front of the building and they want them dispersed.

11:06 a.m. A Speedway caller reported a man is filling up soda bottles with gas.

12:47 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who might be on drugs in the Washington Federal parking lot.

1:59 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on an area near Rivera Mortuary, where the caller saw several tents, sleeping bags and shopping carts.

2:13 p.m. A Walmart caller wants to report a homeless woman was punched by a man that jumped into a Jeep and fled.

2:25 p.m. A Chama Middle School caller reported that five students were under the influence of drugs.

2:52 p.m. A security guard reported a disorderly customer at the Ohkay Casino.

3:45 p.m. A Cook's Mobile Home Park caller said people are fighting.

3:50 p.m. An officer reported he was nearly struck head-on in the median on North Calle Don Leandro.

4:12 p.m. A Freddy's Frozen Custard caller said a woman walked out and didn't pay for her food.

4:35 p.m. A Private Drive 1516 in Hernandez caller thinks someone might be in his dead neighbor's house.

4:51 p.m. An Alcalde caller said her sister's ex came to the house and hit the sister's vehicle, then threatened her with a gun.

5:08 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman near the online grocery pickup area, who hasn't moved in a while and has a blanket over her head. An officer said the woman was just taking a nap.

5:10 p.m. A Walmart caller wants to file a report because the garden center was broken into this morning.

5:16 p.m. A Dollar General in Española caller said a man pulled a knife when asked to leave.

5:20 p.m. An Escalante High School caller reported a very drunk parent is trying to pick up a child from practice.

5:30 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller said vehicles are blocking several homes and the people are "up to no good."

6:15 p.m. A Calle Romero caller reported homeless people are dumping things they gather and the caller fears they will start a homeless camp in the area.

6:51 p.m. A Cook's Mobile Home Park caller said men are fighting nearby.

7:44 p.m. A caller reported being stuck in the mud on Road J8 in Rutheron.

7:57 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a little girl walking on the side of the road in Velarde.

8:08 p.m. A caller said there's a rock about the size of a head in the road near Velarde.

8:30 p.m. A Velarde caller reported their 10-year-old foster child ran away from home.

8:57 p.m. A County Road 135 in Hernandez caller said her niece was banging on the door, saying she slashed the caller's tires.

9:17 p.m. A Santa Cruz Country Store caller reported an overdose.

11:30 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on her boyfriend, who said he had a gun and was going to kill himself somewhere in Pojoaque.

11:43 p.m A caller reported her daughter overheard someone say they were going to shoot up the Mesa Vista High School.

11:46 p.m. An Odelia Lane caller said her neighbor reported someone broke into his house and is inside.

May 25

12:33 a.m. A caller reported her boyfriend's car was stolen two weeks ago and is now at Speedway.

12:43 a.m. A mobile home fire was reported on White Swan Road.

2:51 a.m. A break-in was reported at Dee Dee's Beef Jerky on North Railroad Avenue.

6:29 a.m. A break-in was reported on Pheasant Lane.

7:05 a.m. A caller said someone in a car threw something out of their window on Industrial Park Road and it cracked the caller's windshield.

7:15 a.m. A McCurdy Ministries caller reported a shop was broken into and several tools were taken.

7:57 a.m. A caller said he was trying to walk home this morning and multiple vehicles were harassing and following him.

8:05 a.m. An Avenida Cañada caller reported two people stole megapixel "chips" from him. He also said some SIM cards and a "blue terabyte" were also stolen.

9:38 a.m. An officer stopped to check on a man who was holding a knife on JGN Lane.

11:21 a.m. A Pizza 9 caller said a drunk man is refusing to leave and is harassing customers.

11:34 a.m. A Velarde caller reported the new neighbor's dogs bark at all hours.

12:29 p.m A Hernandez caller wants to file a report for a stolen gun.

1:57 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller reported her 37-year-old son is unconscious, not breathing and has no pulse. The Office of the Medical Investigator was called.

3:57 p.m. A Walmart caller said her 12-year-old son won't get in the car and he's misbehaving and she doesn't know what to do. She left the child at the store.

4:44 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman lying by the skate park at Valdez Park.

4:53 p.m. A caller said two people are forcing a little boy to walk on Fairview Lane. The child is frantic, fighting and crying. The caller said the woman began dragging the child.

5:36 p.m. An East Granada Street caller reported her 45-year-old boyfriend locked himself in the bathroom, has been in there for 10 minutes and is not responding. The Office of the Medical Investigator was called.

6:38 p.m. A Quik Stop carwash caller said someone threatened him with a gun.

6:49 p.m. A Goodwill caller reported a woman is smoking something from a pipe in front of the business.

6:58 p.m. A North Paseo de Oñate caller said a man took down her fence and trespassed.

6:59 p.m. An El Rito caller reported a drunk man is trying to kick cars that are passing by, jumping in front of them and asking for rides.

7:50 p.m. A Family Dollar in Hernandez said three people are refusing to leave and throwing things.

8:10 p.m. A CVS caller reported a customer was yelling at the cashier and they’re afraid it might get physical.

8:12 p.m. A North Riverside Drive caller said the neighbor's child is throwing rocks, dog poop and mud at their vehicles.

8:29 p.m. A deputy was flagged down at Circle C.

8:46 p.m. A Santo Niño Lane caller said there's a chemical smell coming from a house and they are burning stuff in their yard. There have been explosions at the house and the caller thinks they might be cooking meth.

9:15 p.m. A Private Drive 1518 in Hernandez caller reported hearing six or seven shots fired.

10:33 p.m. An Upper San Pedro Road caller said people might be breaking into their shed.

11:57 p.m. A Cook's Mobile Home Park caller reported hearing a gunshot fired.

Threatened at the laundromat

May 26

1:10 a.m. A caller said a man was jumped and might be in the river near Calle Salazar and Hunter Street.

1:22 a.m. A Cook's Mobile Home Park caller reported hearing shots fired an hour ago.

4:47 am. A caller said they heard eight or 10 shots fired by Del Norte Credit Union.

10:13 a.m. A Lowe's Home Improvement caller reported a man threatened to physically harm employees.

10:23 a.m. A caller said his semi truck was broken into at Taco Bell and his wallet was taken.

11:58 a.m. A Joji's caller wants four people behind the building dispersed.

12:17 p.m. A Sunset Drive caller said her brother's girlfriend's mom went to her house and is trying to kill her.

12:29 p.m. A Murphy's Express caller reported three people who have been trespassed from the store are drinking in the parking lot.

12:46 p.m. A Walgreens caller said five or six homeless people are panhandling and bothering people in the parking lot.

12:46 p.m. A Hornets Lane caller reported people pried the gate open and are filling containers with water.

1:09 p.m. A Velarde caller said they found a man unconscious and not breathing. The Office of the Medical Investigator was called.

1:45 p.m. A Private Drive 1504 caller reported a dog went onto his property and killed his dog.

1:54 p.m. A Calle Redonda caller said the neighbor's dog bit him on May 21.

3:13 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported a load of trash was dumped on their property and their dumpster was filled up.

3:15 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a small child who is walking with his "parents" on North Riverside Drive because they think the adults are smoking drugs.

3:26 p.m. A Dollar Tree in Española caller wants homeless people dispersed from in front of the building because they are bothering customers.

3:42 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman in Chamita because she hasn't spoken with her in quite a while.

4:42 p.m. A Walmart caller said a drunk man is yelling at customers and they want him removed.

5:01 p.m. A Pinch Penny caller reported a man threatened to kill them.

5:22 p.m. A Murphy's Express caller said a man is trespassing and harassing customers.

5:44 p.m. A Sunset Drive caller reported a woman is yelling that her daughter was shot.

5:44 p.m. A Sunset Drive caller said a woman is knocking on the windows and yelling that her daughter is being held captive. The woman is threatening to hit a vehicle with a sledgehammer.

6:09 p.m. A Camino Miramontes caller reported a homeless camp is beside her house and she doesn't feel safe.

6:22 p.m. A La Joya Street caller found an electric survey pole at Walgreens, worth about $2,000.

6:24 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman who is slumped over at Rivera Mortuary.

6:46 p.m. A caller said some men who are "all cracked out" appear to be scoping out houses on Harley Lane and North Prince Drive.

7:01 p.m. A Sunset Drive caller reported a woman in a car is blaring the horn.

8:30 p.m. An Ohkay Owingeh caller wants to speak with an officer about two 18-year-old men who are talking to and picking up underage girls.

8:38 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a couple with a child behind Lowe's Home Improvement. The child is wandering around in the roadway.

9:07 p.m. An Escondito Road in Chama caller said her dad flipped his Razr and his arm is hurt.

9:28 p.m. A Calle Flores caller reported "a bunch of crackheads" are in the area and keeping them up all night.

10:20 p.m. A La Mesilla caller heard about five shots in the area.

11:48 p.m. A BOLO was issued for a car that passed a New Mexico State Police officer on North Paseo de Oñate and Fairview Lane, doing about 105 mph.

Driving dumb

May 27

12 a.m. A patient went to the Española Hospital with a ring stuck on their finger. Hospital personnel used every tool at their disposal and wants to know if the fire department has anything they can use to remove the ring.

12:10 a.m. A Jackrabbit Trail caller said her boyfriend is outside, revving his truck and threatening her.

1:13 a.m. An Allsups caller reported a man was maced and his car was stolen.

2:49 a.m. A broken glass alarm was activated at the Family Dollar in Española.

6:57 a.m. A Brown Street caller requested a welfare check on a child that was seen yesterday, running out of a trailer, screaming "help me" as a man with a belt chased him.

7:09 a.m. A Hernandez caller requested a burn permit. When the permit was denied because of the Memorial Day holiday, he said he was going to burn anyway. The dispatcher told him if he does and they get calls about it, he could lose his burning privileges. The man hung up.

8:40 a.m. A house fire was reported on Fairview Lane.

9:39 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying behind Speedway.

10:05 a.m. A Calle Chacoma Vista caller reported finding a wallet with a white substance and ID outside her gate.

10:08 a.m. A caller was bitten by a dog on East Winesap Drive and North Railroad Avenue.

10:15 a.m. A caller reported fraudulent charges to his wife's credit cards.

11:32 a.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said a woman in a truck was drinking and driving.

11:56 a.m. A Murphy's Express caller requested a welfare check on a man who is on the side of the building.

12:11 p.m. A Walmart caller said four homeless people are in the area and they want them dispersed.

12:55 p.m. A Pheasant Lane caller reported her neighbor is harassing her and claiming that she allowed her to almost get killed because she didn't stop someone from going to her house, throwing trash and threatening to kill her.

1:12 p.m. A Vallecitos caller said the neighbors have been shooting for the past three hours.

2:05 p.m. A brush fire was reported on County Road 142 in Medanales.

2:53 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying in the middle of the road on North Riverside Drive and La Joya Street.

3:41 p.m. A Lowe's Home Improvement caller requested that a man be trespassed.

3:53 p.m. A Forest Road 151 caller said kayaks flipped and one woman is stuck on the river because she lost her paddle.

3:58 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported her son threw a shovel at her daughter's boyfriend, then the two men got into a physical fight.

4:42 p.m. An Ohkay Casino caller said an unlocked vehicle was burglarized.

4:50 p.m. A Pheasant Lane caller reported a woman went to her house and broke the windows on her vehicle.

5:17 p.m. A Lowe's Home Improvement caller wants panhandlers dispersed from the area.

5:35 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said his neighbor went to his property and threatened to kill him.

7:03 p.m. A Palmer Lane caller reported a man is hiding in a ditch.

7:51 p.m. A Lindrith caller said a man flipped his truck but seems OK.

8:06 p.m. An Abiquiú caller reported a 90-year-old woman is hallucinating.

8:16 p.m. An East Shadowood Lane caller said people are physically fighting with the neighbors.

9:20 p.m. Taos County requested assistance from the Rio Arriba County Sheriff's Office for a shooting incident in Red River.

10:37 p.m. A Calle de Pajarito caller said a vehicle is making loops around the neighborhood, people are hanging out the windows and they are "driving dumb."

10:58 p.m. An East Jiron Street caller reported finding their car lifted when they got home. They think the catalytic converter was stolen.

11:23 p.m. A McCurdy Circle caller heard six or nine gunshots.

11:24 p.m. A caller reported hearing shots near the McCurdy School.

11:52 p.m. A Calle del Rio caller said his mom and stepdad are using "blues" and are in a domestic situation. The caller also said there's no food or power in the house.

Louder and louder

May 28

12:12 a.m. A Lowe's Home Improvement caller wants eight people dispersed.

12:14 a.m. A Cook's Mobile Home Park caller said someone is having a party that keeps getting louder and louder.

5:52 a.m. A Valdez Park caller reported he got his tires worked on at Walmart and one flew off.

6:27 a.m. A fire was reported at Laguna Acres in Abiquiú.

6:56 a.m. An Old Hospital Road caller said a man was trying to fight her husband.

7:20 a.m. A Walmart caller reported seven people are asking customers for money in the parking lot.

8:02 a.m. A St. John the Baptist Church caller said a man was harassing parishioners.

8:24 a.m. A Pheasant Lane caller reported the neighbors are throwing chairs and lumber and seem to be trying to block the road. A responding officer said a woman was trying to get her dog to attack them.

10:43 a.m. A caller said there are kayaks that are overturned in the river and he saw people getting out of the water.

12:51 p.m. An El Rito caller reported a woman flipped her vehicle.

1:10 p.m. A Santa Claran Gas Station caller said a man is acting like he's going to jump into traffic and he's punching the air like he's fighting himself.

1:32 p.m. A Walmart caller wants people dispersed. She called back and said an elderly man is in the store, acting irate and yelling at customers.

1:52 p.m. A Valdez Park caller said a man and woman are shooting up in the dugout.

4:32 p.m. A Pumpkin Gathering Place caller reported someone is trying to illegally dump trash.

5:21 p.m. A Family Dollar in Española caller said a man in a truck hit a car and now he's trying to run from the scene and three girls are chasing him.

5:34 p.m. A Mountain View Street caller reported his friend took pills and said something about having family issues. Medics discovered the woman took several different pills.

5:38 p.m. A Las Vegas Street caller said a woman in white is throwing wood and rocks into the road. Another caller said the woman put a pallet in the middle of the road and appears to be doing yoga.

7:26 p.m. An Upper San Pedro Road caller reported his son is refusing to move his car out of the driveway, cussing at and threatening him.

7:46 p.m. A La Joya Street caller said a thief stole a device worth $2,000-$3,000.
